Sarah Looney, M.Ed., LPC, NCC
Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas and Arkansas
National Certified Counselor (NCC)
Providing compassionate virtual therapy for adults throughout Texas and Arkansas
Choosing a therapist is a personal decision. It is about more than finding someone with the right credentials. It is about finding someone you feel comfortable with, someone you can trust, and someone whose approach feels right for you.
If you’ve made it to this page, you may be wondering:
“Who is Sarah, and would I feel comfortable sharing my story with her?”
That question matters.
Therapy is built on connection, trust, and feeling understood. My hope is that as you learn more about me, you get a sense of the type of therapist I strive to be: genuine, compassionate, collaborative, and someone who believes your story deserves to be heard.
Why I Became a Therapist
People often ask what led me to become a therapist. The answer is simple: I have always been fascinated by people and their stories.
I have always enjoyed connecting with others, building meaningful relationships, and helping people navigate difficult moments. Throughout my life, I have had the opportunity to connect with people from many different backgrounds, experiences, beliefs, and perspectives.
Those connections have expanded my understanding of the human experience and shaped the way I approach therapy.
I believe every person has a story worth understanding.
Behind every emotion, behavior, coping strategy, and struggle is an experience that helped shape who someone is today. My role is not to judge your story, but to help you understand it, make sense of it, and decide what parts you want to carry forward.
My Journey
After earning my master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Texas Southern University, I began my career working in community mental health.
I gained experience supporting individuals through a variety of challenges in inpatient, outpatient, and agency settings. Those experiences taught me the importance of meeting people where they are.
Everyone enters therapy with their own history, strengths, struggles, and goals. There is no single path to healing, and there is no “right” way to be a person.
My own life experiences have also shaped the therapist I am today. As a mother, someone who has navigated major life transitions, and someone who has learned to embrace my own ADHD and neurodivergent identity, I understand that life rarely follows a predictable path.
These experiences have strengthened my empathy, flexibility, and appreciation for the resilience people carry every day.
A Spicy-Brained Therapist
I am proudly AuDHD (Autistic + ADHD), and I often describe myself as spicy brained.
My brain works a little differently, and I have learned to embrace the creativity, curiosity, problem-solving, and unique perspectives that come with it.
Being neurodivergent has given me a deeper understanding of what it feels like to navigate a world that does not always accommodate the way your brain naturally works.
It has also taught me the importance of self-compassion, understanding your needs, finding strategies that work with your brain, and recognizing that differences are not deficits.
Because of my own experiences, I have a special appreciation for clients who have spent years feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed, or like they have had to work harder than others just to keep up.
I believe therapy should be a place where you don’t have to mask, minimize yourself, or apologize for who you are.
For many people, therapy may be the first place where they do not feel pressure to perform, appear “fine,” have all the answers, or be the version of themselves that others expect them to be.
You are welcome to bring your whole self, the parts you love, the parts you are still learning about, and even the parts you have spent years hiding.
You do not have to know exactly who you are before beginning therapy. Sometimes therapy is the place where you begin discovering that.
Together, we can explore the person underneath the roles you’ve had to play, the expectations you’ve carried, and the ways you’ve learned to survive.
While I am always ethical, professional, and committed to providing quality care, I also believe therapy can be warm, genuine, and human.
You do not have to sit across from someone who feels distant or unreachable. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe being yourself.
Who I Work With
I work with adults who may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, misunderstood, or disconnected from themselves.
Many of my clients are navigating:
- Anxiety and chronic overthinking.
- Depression and emotional exhaustion.
- Trauma and difficult life experiences.
- ADHD, Autism, AuDHD, and neurodivergence.
- Burnout and feeling like you are constantly trying to keep up.
- People-pleasing and difficulty setting boundaries.
- Self-esteem, identity, and self-worth struggles.
- Relationship challenges and communication difficulties.
- Major life transitions and changes.
- Infertility, pregnancy loss, and reproductive challenges.
- A desire to better understand yourself and create a life that feels authentic.
You do not need to have a specific diagnosis or be in crisis to begin therapy.
Sometimes therapy is simply a place to slow down, make sense of your experiences, and better understand yourself.
My Approach to Therapy
I don’t believe therapy should feel cold, intimidating, or like you are being evaluated.
Therapy should feel like a conversation, not an interrogation.
My hope is that you feel comfortable showing up exactly as you are.
You do not have to come into therapy with the perfect words, a clear explanation, or a list of things to discuss.
Many clients come in saying:
“I don’t even know what to talk about.”
That’s okay.
Part of my role is helping guide the process. Together, we can identify goals, explore what is coming up for you, and create direction for our sessions.
I often provide resources, worksheets, and handouts when helpful so you have tools you can continue using outside of therapy.
Therapy is not just about talking about problems. It is about learning, growing, understanding yourself, and developing skills that support the life you want.
What You Can Expect When Working With Me
Together, we will:
- Explore the experiences that have shaped you.
- Identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck.
- Build healthier coping skills.
- Learn strategies to manage anxiety and emotional overwhelm.
- Process trauma and painful life experiences.
- Improve communication and relationships.
- Strengthen self-esteem and self-compassion.
- Develop healthier boundaries.
- Better understand your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
- Create a life that feels more authentic and aligned with who you are.
I do not believe I have all the answers, and I will never tell you who you should be.
Instead, I see therapy as a partnership. My role is to walk alongside you, offer support and guidance, help you gain new perspectives, and assist you in discovering your own strengths.

Seen — because your experiences matter.

Empowered — because growth and change are possible.
My passion is helping adults explore their identity, heal from painful experiences, strengthen relationships, build confidence, and reconnect with themselves.
Therapy is not about fixing you. You are not broken.
